I LOVE the Kathmandu Yogi bag I purchased through their crowdfunding campaign this spring. It is definitely a work of art and an eye-catching accessory! I brought it with me on my wedding/honeymoon in Italy this fall, and I swear it got more compliments than my wedding dress.

The bag is the perfect size…large enough to fit my mat and a change of clothes, without being too big to comfortably sling over my shoulder. I use the pocket with velcro closure on the side of the bag to keep my ID and cash handy when I go to yoga classes and leave my purse behind.

The fact that it was handmade in Nepal by women using their incredible skills to uplift themselves and their families is just a HUGE cherry on top of an already excellent product!

Kathmandu Yogi is a purveyor of ethically made meditation and yoga accessories handcrafted by artisans in Nepal. Our signature meditation cushions are made from Tibetan brocade silks, Bhutanese weaves and Nepali cotton and filled with buckwheat hulls. We also carry yoga bags in complimenting fabrics, Tibetan Buddhist style malas, singing bowls and more articles that support a “yogi” lifestyle.

Natasha Casanova founded the company in August of 2014, after several volunteer trips to Nepal where she forged deep connections with artisans and other locals. Kathmandu Yogi was established with a strong wish that the company’s activities would benefit many, promote cultural exchange, and foster conscious development. The products are more than just consumer goods, but vehicles to cultivate better habits that will inevitably result in growth, development and getting more and more acquainted with one’s true potential. In the wake of the recent earthquakes, shopping Kathmandu Yogi and “made in Nepal” supports people in need more than ever.

Natasha has been a yogi for over 10 years. Her first teacher, and introduction to eastern philosophy, was Lois Steinberg, Phd, an advanced Iyengar Yoga Instructor with over 35 years of practice under BKS Iyengar. Natasha then met and became a student of Lama Ole Nydahl, an accomplished Tibetan buddhist master who has founded over 700 lay Buddhist centers all around the globe over the last 40 years at the behest of the great H.H. 16th Gyalwa Karmapa. Natasha is a marketing and communications professional who has worked in the nonprofit, arts, public relations and retail management sectors prior to founding Kathmandu Yogi.
