Q & A with Chereesca Bejasa

Chereesca is the Founder & CEO of brrrilliant, a consulting and software development services company geared toward startups. We are thrilled to be honoring her with an Ally Award!

Q: What inspired you to become a champion of Women Power?
A: It was the individual female founders that inspired me. Again and again, I saw these women courageously pushing their proverbial cart of dreams uphill all alone and with so many obstacles along the way. In each and every case, those dreams would not only empower the individual women, but would create positive change for our global society, for the planet, or for the animals inhabiting our earth. How could I not get behind them and help push that cart?

Q: What do you love about what you do?
A: I feel incredibly blessed to have built my career in technology, especially on the particular path of my experience. My experience enables me to solve real problems with technology, and in a better way than most tech workers. At this point in our history, during the tech revolution, so much of the future of our society and planet will be driven from what we build today. I love that I can add to the ranks of the “good guys” who care about more than profits and short-term gains. Brrrilliant has the capacity to make a real difference by supporting our game-changing technologists, and by launching other “good guy” companies’ tech solutions. As the founder of Brrrilliant, I have finally found the freedom to live by my own ideals rather than those of my employer.

Q: What are you looking forward to in the year ahead?
A: Brrrilliant is bringing on several highly-skilled female developers. In the tech world, aging women get pushed out as we have children or can no longer balance our lives with the tech culture of late hours and constant travel. We are redefining what it means to be in the workforce by challenging the ideas of the 40-hour work week and the division between the work life and home life. We are also working on bringing on more clients with women founders to help them be successful. Lastly, we are planning on opening a collaborative workspace for women-owned businesses in Chicago, while exploring the expansion to Europe where our women can begin to engage an international audience.

The Brrrilliant Female Founders has proven to be truly helpful for our women founders. This year, we will officially establish the organization, and execute efforts that will help each member to achieve the next level of success. At the end of the year, we will open up to new members.

Q: Why do you support liftUPlift?
A: We can’t do it alone. The odds are stacked against us, which means few individuals will break through on their own. liftUPlift brings people together to overcome and eliminate many of the obstacles that stand in our way. What I love the most, however, is that liftUPlift inherently changes our behavior. We’ve learned to be individualistic and competitive, and liftUPlift teaches us that as a united and collaborative force, we will all win.
